Smartwatches and Wearables - Sleep as Android

Hello Jeroen,
Our app used some deprecated APIs and in the latest Wear OS or Play Services update, Google has broken them so that the app started to crash. We have fixed the issue and rewritten the Wear OS app to use the new APIs.

This is now available in BETA 20200722 or newer with the Wear OS app - included in the phone app - version 3.3.

To get the BETA please first join our BETA Testers group at:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/sleep-as-an-droid
That you can opt-into the BETA at the following address:
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.urbandroid.sleep
Or simply by visiting our Play Store listing and tapping Join BETA

After the BETA updates, you may need to wait some time for your Wear OS watch to update the app on the watch to 3.3. To speed it up, you can try to uninstall the app in the Play Store on your watch - the apps on the phone section. And then install it again.

Please let us know if everything works as expected - our direct email is supporturbandroid.org. Many thanks and sorry for the issues…

Can you add support for Huawei band 4?

+1 for Huawei Band 4 pro

Hi, unfortunately Huawei Bands do not have any API or at least nothing documented. For us is is not possible to integrate them… there are BT sniffing Geniuses like Zdenek Horak who is doing the Mi Band integration for us… so maybe guru’s like himself would be able to integrate the Huawei Bands but it is really a very difficult business… imagine spending several months looking at hex code to figure the integration out and Huawei releases a new firmware and your are done - you have to start over from scratch… we would need all the resource we are now putting into the app to just maintain a Huawei Band integration… no we can’t do it sorry…

Hi, just want to inform you (I guess you are aware of that) that if one is connecting to a wearable, the sonar or/and accelerator of the smartphone is deactivated. Would it be possible to still use it. E.g., right now I am trying the go2Sleep sensor which is really nice to have but as I don’t have movement tracking, the SAA cannot calculate any sleep phase and hence, it is not possible to use the smart clock.

The vendor of the device is not interested in a collaboration (unfortunately) and I don’t see any comparable smart device which is compatible.

Hmm, seems my Garmin fenix 6X Pro supports Oximeter readings throughout the night via the native sleep tracking function.

Sadly it appears to be missing from the SAA app :frowning:
Can it be added?

Would it be possible to implement support for FitBit Inspire (the non-HR version)?

Do you support the Fitbit Inspire at all? I know someone asked about the non HR version, but I dont see it listed with the other Fitbit devices. I’d like to make sure before I open the Inspire that I ordered (75% to use with the Sleep as Android app. …)

No sorry, we only support Fitbit devices where you can deploy apps - Versa, Ionic… the BT protocol of FitBit is not public and cannot be accessed… I just have to say hail to the manufacturers like Polar who just released their latest device with an open API and we will be releasing a support for Polar OH1, OH1+ and Polar H10 soon…

This is how it should look like:

Very interested in Polar H10 support. How soon is very soon? :slightly_smiling_face:

I think we will release this probably next week into BETA…if you like to test it already please let me know. We can prepare a APK for you…

Are wearable devices compatible with SaA automatic sleep tracking feature? That is, if I enable the automatic tracking would heart rate, motiion, etc. be used from the watch? Or do I still have to start SaA manually on the watch?

Thanks.

@raymillr Polar H10 shoudl now be 100% in BETA and 20% in staged roll out to production… any feedback is appreciated…

I’m using the polar H10 since yesterday. Do I need to chose the “heart rate monitoring” option or the “bluetooth smart” option or both? Last night it didn’t work properly but I think that’s because I went to the toilet in the beginning of the night and then polar disconnected from my cell phone.

Hello @A1i3N,

That is a good question, thank you for pointing it out.

I expect you connected the Polar device with Sleep as Android, as described in the blog post: https://sleep.urbandroid.org/polar-sleep-tracking/

Then it monitors the heartrate automatically, no further configuration is necessary.
However, if the “bluetooth smart” option is turned on and a different device than your Polar 10 is selected there, the app will use Polar only for activity monitoring and the other device for heartrates. So I recommend to un-check the “bluetooth smart” option if you had configured it for a different device previously. I realize that it may be confusing, I will think how to make it simpler and update the document.

As for connectivity loss when you go to the bathroom, it should re-connect automatically, when you return and the device is in the reach again. If it does not, please send us a bug report (top-left menu/Report a bug) next time it happens.

Hello jan

Thank you for your reply. It worked pretty well this night. I selected the H10 at the top and ticked both “heart rate monitoring” and “bluetooth smart”. I had then the red line in the diagram with my heart rate.

I think I’ve read somewhere that the H10 also tracks the breath rate based on the lung movement. I ticked “pulse oximeter” in the settings but it didn’t monitor the breath rate. Does the H10 not measure the breath rate or have I done something wrong?

Thank you for your answer in advance.

Hello @A1i3N,

Great, I am glad it worked.

Pulse oximeter is another kind of device, which measures heartrate and blood oxygenation level.

Our app can be also integrated with some oximeters.

If you do not have a compatible oximeter, the “pulse oximeter” checkbox will not do anything.

In your case, you really need just to select the Polar wearable in the “use wearables” menu. “heart rate monitoring” and “bluetooth smart” will have no additional effect.

Polar H10 does not measure breath rate as such, but it can be estimated from detailed analysis of the movement and heartrate sensors. We are planning to implement this feature, but it is not there yet.

Thank you for the quick reply. Okay, I’ll stick to the H10 then and wait until this feature is implemented.

Whitings devices ( watches and sleep tracker under mattress) . How hard would be implementing them?

I am currently using xiaomi band 4 but i need more data.

Hi. Any idea if you will be making Suunto gear compatible with Sleep as Android users? I’m using a Suunto Spartan HR watch and I’d be extremely happy to learn if you are considering to make it compatible with the app.
