Hello again! So now I tried without charging my phone, and changing from Sonar to accelerometer.
Once again, no sleep tracking started. I had “After fall asleep” turned on like usual.
I will upload my sonar graph and accelerometer. The graph indicates the sensor responds to my movement and sounds.
Weirdly though, my first sonar test showed I had 29 sonar strength.
Second and third test: slightly above 500 sonar strength (510 ish)
Fourth test: 167 signal strength
I can’t really capture a genuine sonar-graph since I am not in bed or trying to sleep, just sitting at my desk with my phone infront of me.
Edit: Please note Sonar seemed to be working correctly before, it’s the “Sleep tracking” that won’t really start, when I had it set to “Smart Period” instead of “After fall asleep” atleast it turned on. Just trying to avoid confusion.
The sonar strength changes are a bit strange. A small fluctuation is normal, but going from 29 (which is below usability) to over 500 may indicate some fighting with the sound-enhancing features.
In the log, the app no longer had “phone usage” reported, but this time, each time the app started the tracking, there was a prominent peak in the movement (from the sensor, not from the phone’s activity). Where was the phone located? Do you think there might be some source of sudden movements?
Usually I seem to have 500 strength, I don’t know why it changes so much. All tests were done after each other.
I always keep my phone on my bed table, which is 30-40 centimeters away from my body. There should be no movement, especially not after 00.30 atleast (not sure when I fell asleep). Maybe when I got up to drink some water, but nothing more.
Edit: I am using something called “Wavelet”, an equalizer, to enhance my sound. Could this cause interferrence?
5th sonar test gives me 370 signal strength
6th test: 500
If you try the other frequencies, do you get better and more stable signal strenght?
Is the Wavelet on the whole time? It seems to alter the sound waves, so it could interfere with the sonar.
The accelerometer is strange - except for 2 cases when the tracking was running a bit longer, the sudden movement peak came almost exactly after 5 minutes from the start.
Since nothing seems to be working I just reinstalled the app and reconfigured my most important settings. I will see how it works out tomorrow. I did multiple Sonar tests and got between 199 - 1444 signal strength, but mostly 500. F19 seems most unstable for me, the rest was pretty much the same between 200-600.
Wavelet is on all the time I think, but I disabled it and it and didnt seem to make any difference.
My main issue is that sleep tracking doesnt start automatically, neither “After fall asleep” or “Smart Period” is working now for some reason I dont know. Hopefully it will work out after my reinstallation. Thanks for your time and help. If it doesnt work tomorrow I will just give up on fixing this.
Smart period should work - it is not dependent on the activity or sensor data. Do you have the condition for charging configured? That could prevent it from starting.
Does the alarm have a smart period configured?
Automatic tracking depends on the activity data from the system, and then on the awakes - only if there are no awake-like events, the app can continue the tracking. Otherwise, the tracking is terminated and deleted (that was happening in your previous logs).
Did you send the logs? I cannot find them in the inbox. Could you please try again? You should get an auto-bot reply as a confirmation.
About the sonar strength - do you have more stable results on average from the dynamic frequency (F18-22/F18-20) or the static ones?
I meant that the automatic sleep tracking doesn’t seem to start with either “After fall asleep” or “Smart Period”.
Yes I have “Charging only” with Sonar, but I always charge my phone during the night
I sent todays logs. I reinstalled everything and only set up my alarms and the most important configurations. With “Automatic sleep tracking: Smart Period” and “Sensor: Sonar”
I would prefer the “After fall asleep” method, going to try that tonight. Anyway, I woke up briefly at 7.30 and sleep tracking was active:
But it had only been active for 48 minutes. Since I checked my phone the alarm rang and I turned it off, and since it was 30 minutes before my actual alarm should start I went back to sleep.
So automatic sleep tracking doesn’t seem to be working properly still. I have it delayed 10 mins in settings because it’s my usual “fall asleep” time.
Smart period mode for automatic tracking will start the tracking 45 minutes before the smart period. For an alarm scheduled for 7:47 with 10 minutes smart period, this start falls to 6:42. At 07:40, the tracking was active for 48 minutes from 06:42.
Smart period start only relies on the start of the smart period.
After fall asleep option is more complicated - it needs to have a period, with no activity reported (as it only makes sense to track sleep if you are no longer active). This activity check relies on the data from the system.
Ah I understand, thanks. Well, everything works for me now after reinstalling the app. I think my settings are the same, too. I don’t know what caused it, but happy everything works - even “After fall asleep” worked tonight.
Could you please keep an eye on it closely for a few more days, and report me any issues? It troubles you for a longer time, so I need to be sure it is again working reliably.
