Record the lux (amount of light) at the time of alarm (or possibly at each sampling time)

The amount of light in the room affects the quality of sleep (because of SCN and melatonin and stuff) so recording the amount of light (lux) in compatible phones can provide additional information for sleep quality improvements

You may use the frontal camera as an alternative to lux meter. On many China phones lux sensors are very rough and may have only a couple of reported levels. Averaging the camera output may give a continuum instead.

Problem with a lot of phones, though, is a poorly lit room is seen as a pitch black room. The sensors in most phones are not sensitive enough. As much as I do like your idea.
