I paid for the unlock in 2016 but now I started to get notifications such as “premium trial expired”? Are others experiencing the same? I believe I purchased a permanent licence. It’s not about the price but the principle.

If not, you should see a pending update on the Play Store waiting for you. Update and let me know if this helps.
All past purchases are still valid and honoured (no matter how old they are).
