I don’t need to be permanently informed about the fact that there is an alarm set. Especially if it is weekend and the next alarm will be on Monday.
Having the icon only show up In the status bar if there is an alarm within the next 12 (maybe 18? 24?) hours is much less obnoxious and even more informative, too. The icon would not only indicate, that there is an alarm set at all, but it would also ensure me that I will be woken up tomorrow which is what (and also all) I really need to now when looking at that icon.
