Google Pixel - Cannot use QR code CAPTCHA any more

After having installed a new rom (Android 14) I struggle with QR code CAPTCHA.
When I want to use it, the app says:

Google Vision API error. Please install Barcode Scanner, QRDr…

the rest of the message is scrolling out of sight, so I cannot read the whole message.
Anyway, I have installed Google Lense and looked at QR Droid (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=la.droid.qr&pcampaignid=web_share). The latter is too old for Android 14. And Google Lense does not show up in the app.

Also, I cannot clear the defaults in the app, to be able to assign a new app for the QR code CAPTCHA., because there is no Settings, Apps (not “Apps & Notifications”), Sleep, Advanced in my settings. So there is no “Open by default” either. So I cannot clear it.

How can I get QR code CAPTCHA to work again?

Turns out the my (custom) rom is Google Pixel based (Elixir).
And then, as opposed to the help info on this page, the steps to assign another QR code reader in the Sleep as Android app is described on this page.

All good now
