Instead of just waiting for watch connectivity, check to see if the watch is being worn (either with heart rate sensor or if not charging).
I have my alarms set up to start tracking before the alarm time if I forget to start tracking to still utilize the smart wake up feature. Unfortunately, if I fall asleep without starting tracking, that usually means my watch is still on the cradle charging. The app should determine if the watch is being worn in this situation, and of not, act as if the watch isn’t connected and start phone tracking (movement or sonar).
