Have an option for when an alarm goes off it will change the phone from Silent to either Vibrate or Sound. This way you will not need to remember to set your phone to vibrate or sound incase you forget throughout the day and someone tries to contact you but you didn’t notice due to your phone being on silent.
Also another option would be to have your phone bet set to silent when the bedtime notification appears. This way if you forget to set your phone to silent before bed you will not be woken up by an email or some other notification at night.
