Integrate with the Basis Peak watch. It does auto sleep detection, but honestly even using it to grab the heart rate would be great.

Peak Bluetooth LE Heart Rate Streaming Compatibility
Peak allows users to stream heart rate data to compatible apps and smartphones through the Bluetooth LE standard heart rate profile (also technically known as the GATT protocol). Below is the current status of compatibility for both iOS and Android.
iOS
Peak is compatible with all iOS apps that enable the Bluetooth LE standard heart rate profile along with compatible Peak phones. These apps include some of the leading fitness apps like Strava, MapMyRun and Endomondo.
Android
There is very limited compatibility with Peak and third party Android apps with the heart rate profile due to current protocol incompatibility. Basis will continue to explore options to increase compatibility.
This device was recalled/discontinued for exploding, a long time ago.
