Backup alarm - Sleep as Android

Starts ringing loudly at maximum volume if you ignore your normal alarm.

Settings → Alarms → Backup alarm

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://docs.sleep.urbandroid.org/alarms/backup.html

Alarm still repeats through the day. No option to toggle off back up alarm. Normally love the app but since enabling back up alarm it has been a nightmare.

Hi @Joebetwa, you have probably enabled the “Wake up check” feature.
A wake up check notification will show after some time after you dismiss your alarm. If not confirmed alarm will start ringing again based on your wake up check settings.
Will the alarm stop after you confirm the wake-up check notification by tapping on the “I’m awake” button?

I just want to turn the feature back off

Hi @Natashane_Mccook, you can disable the feature at the same place you have enabled it - in Settings > Alarms > CAPTCHA > Wake-up check or in the per-alarm settings, in the CAPTCHA section. So it depends on where you enabled it.

I just had a nightmare as well.
My phone’s display for some reason went all white/green (phone’s failure).
At the same time the alarm went on. As it does not react to any side buttons, and my display was not showing anything, I could not turn it off. It went off by itself.
And then backup alarm started…
And I could not turn it off in any way. So there I was with my phone on maximum sound, shouting like crazy, and I can’t turn it off.
The worst thing is, I can not get out the battery out of my phone because Samsung Galaxy has it all glued to the inside.
I understand the back up alarm is needed to REALLY wake you up, but there should be at least some way to turn it off differently in extreme cases like this…

I mean, of course it did its job - I did wake up, as well as all my neighbourhood…

Hello @JalapenoYT,
the alarms can be dismissed by the buttons, this depends on your configuration (Settings > Alarms > Volume or camera button effect).
If your configuration does not allow buttons for the alarm actions, the alarm can be dismissed only with the buttons.
What solution do you suggest in case the hardware of the phone ends up in an error like this?

Well, in settings the disable by buttons was enabled, but it did not work for some reason.
Ofc I understand, that if it’s a hardware failure, that’s not something you are in control of from the application. However, you can imagine my stress from the situation
Now I have obtained the access to my phone, and went into the settings for Backup alarm to turn it off. But there is no possibility to turn it off completely? The shortest duration is 1 minute?
Also, if I disable the “Wake up check” in alarms (including a specific set alarm), it shows the status “Wake up check Enabled” still.

The backup alarm can have a Silent ringtone: Settings > Alarms > Backup alarm > Ringtone > Silent.

If the wake-up check configuration does not follow the general settings, it shows the configuration of the per-alarm settings, and the general configuration is there crossed.

This for example means, that the wake-up check is enabled for all alarms, except this particular one, which has it disabled:

This shows when the wake-up check is disabled in both places.

This shows when the wake-up check is disabled in general, and the per-alarm settings are configured to follow the general settings.

What do you see, and what is your pick in the per-alarm settings and in the Alarms settings?

Well, yes, I figured out it’s the closest to turning it off. But don’t you think it would be good to have an option to actually simply turn it off?

it shows the configuration of the per-alarm settings, and the general configuration is there crossed

Thank you. Quite confusing indeed. I see the logic here, but having some settings in two different places with “crossings out” and possible overrides is not really intuitive for the user. Why not leave individual settings only without overrides?

Oh, and one more thing. When I downloaded the application, it was not possible to change the account login and password, as it is connected directly to Google Play account (I suppose). I wanted to use another account for payment, but couldn’t change :woman_shrugging:

The approach of having general settings and per-app settings allows you to have one alarm with different behavior, without changing all your alarms.
So you can have the wake-up check for example only enabled for the workdays, and keep it disabled for your weekend alarms.
Having general settings allows you to change all the alarms at once (except the alarm with special per-alarm settings).
Individual settings you configure in per-alarm settings are never changed by the changes in general settings.

The app does not have accounts. If you installed the app from the Play Store using one account, the app will be installed on this account. If you wish to install the app from the Play Store under a different account, you need to use this other account when installing the app from the Play Store.
