Single-Instance Skip / Auto-Resume Prompt for Recurring Alarms
Summary / Overview
Currently, toggling off a recurring alarm completely disables all future occurrences until the user manually turns it back on. This feature requests an interactive prompt when a user toggles off an active recurring alarm, asking if they wish to skip only the next upcoming instance while keeping the remaining repeat schedule active.
Problem Statement
When users have a holiday, take a day off, or go on vacation, they frequently turn off their daily/recurring morning alarm. However, because turning off the alarm completely disables the recurring schedule, users often forget to re-enable it for the next scheduled day, leading to missed alarms and oversleeping.
Proposed Solution & User Flow
User Action:
The user toggles off an active recurring alarm (e.g., a Monday–Friday 6:00 AM alarm) prior to the next scheduled alarm time.
System Response (Prompt):
A pop-up message or bottom banner appears asking:
“Skip next occurrence only?”
“Would you like to turn this alarm back on automatically for [Next Scheduled Day, e.g., Tuesday at 6:00 AM]?”
[ Skip Next Alarm ] [ Turn Off Completely ]
User Selection:
If “Skip Next Alarm” is selected: The alarm remains disabled for the immediate next occurrence, but automatically reactivates for the following scheduled day.
If “Turn Off Completely” is selected: The alarm behaves as it currently does (remains toggled off indefinitely until manually re-enabled).
Expected Behavior
Status Indicator: On the main Alarm tab, the skipped alarm displays a temporary indicator (e.g., “Skipping next: Mon, Sep 21” or a calendar badge) so the user knows it will automatically resume.
Notification Integration: If the upcoming alarm notification is already showing in the notification shade (e.g., “Upcoming Alarm - Mon 6:00 AM”), selecting “Skip” directly from the notification shade should also trigger this auto-resume logic.
Flexibility: Users can tap the skipped alarm at any point before the next cycle to undo the skip or adjust the schedule manually.
